PERSONAL STATEMENT
Filmmakers have always been my heroes and, to me, film is an outstanding medium, which provides unlimited potential to tell stories and challenge opinions. I have been making and experimenting with film for the past eight years and would love the opportunity to study it to a degree level to prepare for a career in film. The creative process of a film - the planning, the collaboration, narrative, and stylistic choices fascinate and intrigue me. I love working in a team and thrive on sharing ideas and critique, which has not only been an important asset in my personal work, but also in my A Level course.

During my studies at Finham Park School, I have been actively involved in the film department, where I have taken every opportunity to make contacts and meet film professionals, including Gary Tomkins and Bob Cheshire. In 2022, I was a key component in persuading Coventry City of Culture to back our annual film festival. In addition, I managed the event photography and social media promotion. In preparation, I initiated meetings, contacted celebrity agents, and networked with professionals in the industry. This helped me to build contacts, which resulted in an invitation from post-production supervisor Miranda Jones for a tour of post-production facilities for an upcoming Netflix film. I was also asked by the school to edit both the Year 11 Leavers video, and the Sports Day video. Since 2021, I have had a weekly show on the school radio, broadcasting live shows and adapting the show to fit the changing target audience. Editing is my real passion and I have deepened my understanding from completing these projects, which both required quite different approaches.

I started creating content under the name ‘Miropri' in late 2020, which pushed me to learn new software packages, such as OBS and Adobe Premiere Pro and to understand streaming platforms. Exposure on Twitch resulted in an approach in June 2021 from social media company Hamul, to promote their application on stream. I was also commissioned to edit a few short clips for social media platforms such as TikTok. These experiences helped me to gain personal confidence, an understanding of the importance of planned promotion and how to communicate professionally with clients. I am keen to continue to develop other opportunities for commissions and am therefore really attracted to looking for paid work and building a professional portfolio during my degree.

In 2022, I partook in a week of film related work experience, which I arranged myself, at the UK’s only full-service, community first publishing group, Electric House, where I was given the opportunity to edit two videos, which both gained over 300K Facebook views combined. I was able to edit one compilation video, and collaborated on one original content sketch. In addition, I helped rig a set for a live show “Talking Trade,” and help with pre-production sheets, such as call sheets and risk assessments. I also prepared TikTok trend reports and helped plan the marketing campaign for another live event, “The Tradies”. This week confirmed how much I want a career in film and media and just how stimulating I find this working environment.

Telling stories through film and using them to affect people's thinking has been a passion for several years now and I am convinced that studying filmmaking in a professional fast paced environment will be the best way for me to thrive and learn. The opportunity of working and studying with like-minded creative people for three years is an exciting prospect to which I could bring enthusiasm, good organisation, imagination, resourcefulness and a strong work ethic.
